Your Vet- Dr Rebecca Bugg
“Unlike many veterinarians I entered the profession because I enjoy working with people as much as the animals. I like to get to know my patients as part of your family- whether that be just the two of you, or twenty of you! I understand that you know your animal best, so when you talk to me about your pet, I listen.
I found that working in a busy clinic environment, it was often difficult to spend the quality time necessary with the clients and patients as there was always something else going on. However, this experience was quite different when making housecalls. It was much less stressful for the pets and the experience was more personal. That’s why I decided to start up VetCall.
After graduating with Honours from Murdoch University (Perth) in 1999, I worked for four years in a large veterinary practice in Ballarat, where I had the opportunity to work with some fantastic vets with a wide range of special interests. During this time I also did some locum work in the UK. I worked in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne for two years at a practice that did a lot of housecalls, which is when I discovered how great they were.
In 2003, I undertook the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society accreditation course in Veterinary Acupuncture and have also completed several courses in Chinese Herbal therapy. I am a member of the Australian Veterinary Association and attend regular conferences and seminars to keep up to date with the latest developments in veterinary science.”
Your Nurse - Michelle Castellucci
My love of animals has always been with me as long as I can remember. I preferred to sleep on the belly of my grandma’s German Shepherd, rather than sleeping in my crib.
From age eleven to sixteen I had the unique opportunity to volunteer with and learn from Ninon Phillips. Ninon received the 2009 Order of the British Empire for her decades of dedication to Australian Wildlife, including rehabilitation and conservation. Ninon is also the Founder and President of the WISE (Wildlife in Secure Environment). The experiences I shared with her are unforgettable.
After completing Year 10 work experience, I was offered a position as a kennel hand after school at a veterinary clinic in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. A year or so later they trained me as a veterinary nurse. I worked at this clinic for over 10 years and gained extensive experience of all things veterinary. I moved through the ranks from vet nurse to head nurse to clinic co-ordinator, where I had a hand in expanding our two clinics to three clinics which serviced the majority of Melbourne with house calls. This clinic is where I met Dr Rebecca Bugg!
Recently, I wanted to regain and advance my nursing skills and become more hands on with the precious patients again. I decided a change to another clinic was what I needed. I was given the opportunity to work with a very dedicated group of girls and within a few months they had me up and running like a well oiled nursing machine- just like the rest of them.
When I heard Rebecca was expanding her services, it was a hard decision to tear myself away from my new family of workmates, clients and patients, but the lure was too great. I’m excited and honoured to join Rebecca in her quest to make veterinary care very individual, personal and convenient, while bringing with that true compassion not just for your pets, but for you too.
Dr Shelley Buttigieg BVSc
I have been working part time at Pet Vet Sunshine since September 2009.
I graduated from Melbourne University in December 2000 and spent the last 9 ½ years in small animal practice. 2 ½ of those years were spent living and working in the UK where I gained loads of experience with dogs, cats and small furries i.e. rabbits and guinea pigs and managed to see a bit of Europe at the same time!
My interests include small animal internal medicine, dermatology and surgery. My passion for the profession steams from getting to know the pets and their owners and watching the bond that they share.
Outside work hours I enjoy travelling, snowboarding, belly dancing, spending time with family. I am mostly kept busy entertaining my 2 yr old son Fynn. I am owned by my cat Pepsi who is a female domestic short hair, tortoiseshell, 7 years old. If she had it her way she would spend all her life happily sitting on someone’s knee. Pepsi has to contend with my playfull 3 year old Jack Russell x Silky Terrier named Bo.
Bo’s idea of a great time is running around our local dog park with his mate Chief.
